Geek Girl

Series Production Graphic Design
Project Highlights

As graphic designer for the Canadian locations of Netflix’s Geek Girl, I produced graphics for a wide variety of key props and set decoration. This included designing and constructing signage, displays and artwork for locations such as the souvenir cart, boathouse, backstage areas and runway, designing a museum exhibit, and creating key props such as newspapers and Ottawa guidebooks. Playing into the Canadian angle of these episodes, I created a fictional Canadian snack product known as Beaver Chips. I also wrote the haiku placed on each guest’s seat in the runway scene.

Project Highlights

Fenzi x Yuji Lee

Event Branding, Set Decoration

Yuji Lee puts on several major events during the characters’ time in Canada: the catwalk, the fashion shoot, and the afterparty, in partnership with Fenzi Magazine. Branded artwork, singage and large format displays were needed for all of them. This included 8×8 step and repeats, styling guides, standing banners, blown up magazine covers, and fashion magazines to help fill out the world inhabited by these characters.

Beaver Chips

Branding/Packaging Design, Props

The characters in Geek Girl needed snacks in various scenes, so in keeping with the Canadian aesthetic I designed this fictional snack Beaver Chips – in Plain and Ketchup flavours.

Graphic Design, Props

The main character and her father arrive in Canada excited for the journey ahead of them – packed with parkas in summertime and Ottawa tourism guidebooks.

Great White Shark

Museum Exhibit

During a visit to the Canadian Museum of Nature, the protagonists bond over a Great White Shark exhibit. Unfortunately, this exhibit does not exist. Using a large shark head provided by my art director, I was tasked with designing one. It needed to be interesting to look at, and blend in seamlessly with its surroundings in the museum.
